WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Giuseppe Gentile scored once and added an assist as nationally-ranked Charlotte topped host UNCW, 3-1, in a men's soccer exhibition match on Tuesday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

Senior Thomas Driver netted UNCW's goal on the evening with a header in the 79th minute that narrowed the 49ers' lead to 2-1. Sophomore Matt Feigler sent a corner kick into the box and Driver headed the ball inside the far post.

Gentile gave Charlotte a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute when he converted a Seahawk turnover in the defensive third of the field. He took one touch to the right to pass an oncoming keeper before slipping is shot into the goal.

Tyler Gibson pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 59th minute by converting a penalty kick. A 49er was pulled down in the penalty area by sophomore Jacob VanCompernolle, setting up the spot foul.

After Driver cut the deficit to 2-1, Charlotte answered in the 83rd minute with a goal by Kyle Parker. Gentile set up the goal with a cross from the right side that found Parker in the air where he headed home the goal.

Charlotte built a 15-3 shot advantage, but managed just five on goal.
