CHINA GROVE, North
Carolina - UNCW standout Stefan Brewer won a U.S. Amateur qualifier in
China Grove, N.C., by four strokes and advanced to the National Championship in
Cherry Hills Village, Colo., Aug.13-19.
Brewer shot 65-64=129 to win the qualifier.
"My game has been coming along this summer," said Brewer. "I've
been getting stronger and more confident. All aspects of my game have been
clicking. I am fortunate to be playing well this summer."
In a local qualifier, fellow Seahawks Patrick Sawrey
(73-78=151), Payne McLeod (78-75=153) and Dylan Harris (78-WD) were unable to
advance at Magnolia Greens in Leland, N.C. Only two golfers advanced from the Magnolia
qualifier.
Prior to heading out to Colorado, Brewer will compete in the
North Carolina Match Play Championship at the Forest Oaks Country Club in
Greensboro, N.C. The championship opens on Aug. 1 and runs though the 5th.
