Stephenson Makes Big Splash for Seahawks

(This is the seventh in a series of capsules highlighting the successful 2011-12 sports season at UNCW)

Sparked by a talented freshman, the women's swimming and diving team splashed its way to third place in the CAA Swimming & Diving Championships to keep the program among the league's best. Newcomer Hannah Stephenson was named CAA Rookie-of-the-Year after winning the 100-Yard Backstroke and scoring 31 points in the season-ending meet in Fairfax, Va.  She also swam a leg on the CAA champion 200-Yard Medley Relay Team as the Seahawks finished behind James Madison and Towson at GMU's McKay Natatorium. In addition, the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay unit of Carly Tanner, Mattie Riley, Libby Mayock and Anna Munger set a conference record with a time of 3:20.81 in the finale.
