WILMINGTON, North
Carolina - UNCW standouts Tyler McSwain and Thomas Pope were named
All-state by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Directors
Association after helping the Seahawks to the NCAA tournament and a 39-23
record.
McSwain posted a career-best season with a 9-4 record and a
3.18 ERA. He earned first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors after
compiling a 7-1 mark against league opponents. McSwain moved into UNCW's
all-time leaders in strikeouts with 239 (sixth) and wins with 22 (eighth).
Pope, meanwhile, picked up where he left off in 2011,
leading the team with a .372 batting average and seven triples. Pope, who also
earned first-team All-CAA honors, started 58-of-59 games played, scored 49
runs, knocked in 45 and stole 17 bases.
Pope also earned first-team All-ABCA East honors while
McSwain was voted to the second team.
