WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Thirty-nine wins, a conference title and a trip to the NCAA tournament paid off for UNCW as Andrew Cain, Thomas Pope and Tyler McSwain were named All-East by the American Baseball Coaches Association this week.
Cain and Pope were first-team honorees and McSwain earned a spot on the second team. For Pope, it's his second All-East first-team accolade, while Cain was a second-teamer last season.
Cain, who reported to the San Francisco Giants after being selected in the 24th round of the MLB Draft earlier this month, was a first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection after hitting a career-best .322 with 12 home runs, also a career-high.
Pope led the Seahawks with a .372 batting average while also posting team-highs with 86 hits and 18 doubles. His seven triples were second most in a single season for the Seahawks.
McSwain anchored the staff with a 9-4 record and a 3.18 ERA in 17 appearances, including 15 starts. In 104 2/3 innings he walked just 24 while striking out 67.
