WILMINGTON, North
Carolina - Led by sophomore Aerial Chatman competing in two events, UNCW
will send four athletes to the NCAA First Round meet in Jacksonville, Fla.,
which begins on May 24.
Joining Chatman in Jacksonville will be junior David Lindsay, seniors Bob Vanderham and Jordan Daywalt.
Chatman qualified for the regional in both the Long Jump and
Triple Jump. As a freshman in 2011, he qualified in the Triple Jump, but enters
the 2012 regional with a better ranking in the Long Jump. "To qualify and
compete in two events speaks volumes of the season Aerial had," said Head Coach
Jim Sprecher.
Also returning to the regional round is Lindsay, who will
compete in the 110 meter Hurdles. Lindsay is coming off an impressive
performance at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships where he won the
110 Hurdles. "David's experience he gained from last year is immeasurable. He
did a great job in the CAA meet and that has put him in position to continue
what has been a great season for him."
Rounding out the men's participants for UNCW is Vanderham,
who looking to build upon a successful senior season that included defending
his CAA Championship in the 800 meters. "Bob has been on a roll since the CAA
Championship in 2011 where he won his first title. He continued that roll into
the NCAA Regional where he advanced to the finals race of the 800 meters. He's
geared up and ready to advance to the NCAA Championships."
Daywalt continues a line of Seahawk women who have qualified
for the NCAA Regionals in the Pole Vault. As a senior, Daywalt fashioned the
best year of her career, setting the school record in the event. "Jordan has a
great attitude and that has helped her this season. She goes with the flow and
doesn't let anything affect her performance."
The meet runs May 24-26 at Hodges Stadium on the campus of
North Florida.
