Freshman Kristen Jernigan had one of the Seahawks three hits in their series finale against Georgia State Saturday
WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Junior Paige Nowacki hit two home runs and sophomore pticher Kaitlyn Medlam recorded 13 strikeouts to lead Georgia State to a 4-1 victory over UNCW in Colonial Athletic Association softball action Saturday at Boseman Field.

The Panthers earned a series sweep of the Seahawks with the three-run victory and moved to 28-11 overall and 6-3 in league play. UNCW, who slipped to 6-32 and 1-8 with the loss, returns to action April 14 when it opens a three-game series at Towson with a Noon doubleheader.

Nowacki drove in all four Panthers runs with her sixth and seventh home runs of the season to power a GSU attack that finished with five hits. Junior Carrie Williams was 2-for-3 while freshman Ashley Christy had one base knock in three plate appearances.

Medlam allowed just one run on three hits in seven innings of work as she improved to 10-4 on the season. She did not issue a walk as she posted a new season-high in strikeouts.

Sophomore Kimmie Stewart was 1-for-2 with a solo home run for UNCW while senior Ashley Shingleton and freshman Kristen Jernigan tallied the other UNCW hits in the contest, both singles.

Nowacki put the Panthers in front in the top of the first as she connected on a 1-2 offering from Seahawks freshman pitcher Casey Rowland for a two-run home run to center field to give GSU a 2-0 lead. The blast plated freshman Lauren Coleman, who reached base one batter earlier on a walk.

Stewart trimmed the Seahawks deficit in half in the bottom of the third, sending a 1-0 pitch from Medlam to left center for a solo home run to make it a 2-1 contest. The long ball was the first of Stewart's collegiate career.

Nowacki closed out the scoring in the top of the sixth, hitting her second two-run home run of the afternoon, this time a blast to left center, to give the Panthers a 4-1 cushion. Senior pinch runner Cassie Boese came around to score on the play, replacing Coleman after she drew her second walk of the contest to reach base.
