RICHMOND, Virginia - Freshman Jordan Ramsey struck out six over 7 1/3 shutout innings as UNCW captured its Colonial Athletic Association series from VCU with a 4-0 win on Sunday at the Diamond.

The Seahawks continue to hold the league-lead with a 7-2 mark while improving to 12-11 overall. The Rams, meanwhile, dropped to 12-12 overall and 3-6 in the CAA.

Ramsey (2-1) extended his shutout streak to 13 innings after scattering three hits and a walk during his outing. UNCW ran into some trouble in the ninth as VCU loaded the bases, but sophomore William Prince notched his third save of the season with a ground ball out to end the game.

The Seahawks managed just six hits on the afternoon with senior Jake Koenig collecting two hits and a RBI.

Bill Cullen had two hits for VCU, who was out-hit, 6-4.

UNCW opened the scoring in the first inning as Matt Campbell stole third and scored as the throw sailed into foul territory behind third base.

VCU freshman starter Heath Dwyer (2-1) nearly matched Ramsey as he shutout the Seahawks into the seventh inning before UNCW put three runs up on the board. Thomas Pope draw the only walk Dwyer would issue to open the inning. After a sacrifice bunt moved him into scoring position, Koenig followed with a double to right center and plated Pope. Koenig would score later in the inning as UNCW was able to take advantage of two VCU errors for a 4-0 lead.

Dwyer went a career-best seven innings, allowed four runs, one earned, one five hits and a walk.

The Seahawks visit non- conference foe Elon on March 27 for a 6 p.m. start.
