Reid, Brennan Takes Events At Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Virginia - Sophomore Maleena Reid won the 60-meter spring and senior Erin Brennan won the mile run to pace UNCW on the final day of the Liberty Open at the Tolsma Indoor Track on Saturday.

In the 60 meters, Reid topped the field with a time of 7.62 seconds in her first sprint competition of the season. She owns the school record of 7.59, set last season as a freshman.

In the mile, Brennan clocked in with a time of 5:19.03 to top the field.

Sophomore Krista Mangum added the first of three third-place finishes for the Seahawks with a time of 8.84 in the 60-meter Hurdles. UNCW also picked up third-place finishes from Shelby Hall in the Pentathlon and the 4x400 Relay of Becky Boulay, Ellen Ann Curcio, Emily Mauro and Reid.

David Lindsay and Ariel Chatman led the men's squad with second-place finishes in the 60-meter Hurdles and Triple Jump, respectively. Chatman's mark of 15.01 meters was a career-best.

Contributing third-place finishes in the Mile and Weight Throw were Kelly Carmichael and Thomas DiCiaccio, respectively.

UNCW returns to the track on Feb. 4, at the Penn State Challenge.
