WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The UNCW women's basketball team wraps up a three-game road swing Sunday with a 2 p.m. matinee at Towson.
The Seahawks (12-7; 5-3 CAA) will attempt to close the month of January with a fifth straight victory after posting a 69-64 come-from-behind win at Northeastern on Thursday.
Trailing by as many as 19 during the contest, UNCW used a 22-6 run midway through the second half to take the lead and pick up its seventh win in the last nine outings.
Sophomore Alisha Andrews led three players in double figures with 15 points and added a season-high six rebounds to highlight a Seahawks lineup that connected on a season-high 11 three-pointers and committed a season-low 10 turnovers. Junior Tawanna Lee pitched in 14 points, all in the second half, while junior Jessica Freeman added 13 as she reached double figures for the fourth straight contest.
"I felt that we got off to a poor start against Northeastern, but we were able to rebound in the second half and come out with the victory," said UNCW Head Coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke. "It's important to win games on the road in this league and hopefully the win at Northeastern will allow us to build some momentum as we head down the home stretch of the regular season."
Towson (12-7; 3-5 CAA) eyes an end to a current skid that has seen the Tigers drop three of their last four contests, including a 78-54 decision at George Mason last Thursday.
Sophomore Tanisha McTiller guides veteran coach Joe Matthew's lineup with a team-high 12.2 scoring average while senior Krystal Parnell compliments the attack with 11.9 points and 3.6 assists; good for sixth place in the league in that category. Sophomore Nyree Williams ranks fifth in the league with 8.8 rebounds per game to highlight the team's efforts on the glass.
"Towson is a team that will look to dictate tempo," said Cooper-Dyke. "In order to be successful against the Tigers, we need to play good defense and get out on our fast break when transition opportunities present themselves."
Sunday's contest marks the 19th meeting between UNCW and Towson. UNCW has won four straight against Towson to build a 11-7 edge in the series, highlighted by a sweep of the Tigers in the season series a year ago.
UNCW returns home Thursday to host No. 15 Delaware. The Blue Hens won the first meeting between the two programs in Newark on Jan. 12 by a 69-37 margin.
