NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia - Jordan Daywalt won the Pole
Vault while Clarissa Perkins and Thomas DiCiaccio gave UNCW a sweep of the
Weight Throw on the opening day of the Captains Invitational, hosted by
Christopher Newport. Kevin Webb earned a share of first-place in the men's Pole
Vault.
In the Pole Vault, Daywalt used a height of 3.49 meters to win
the event in her indoor debut. In the men's event, Webb vaulted 4.21 to tie for
top honors.
In the Weight Throw, Perkins, a freshman, took top honors with
a mark of 14.86 meters while DiCiaccio posted a distance of 15.02 meters.
In the men's Long Jump, sophomore Aeiral Chatmen jumped 6.99
meters to finish second.
Also adding a second-place finish was Tierra Davis with a mark
of 14.63 in the Weight Throw, placing behind Perkins.
Junior David Lindsay placed second in the 60-meter hurdles
with a time of 8.32 seconds.
In the 600 meters, UNCW's Sherry Ben-Joseph (1:41.58) and
Connor Brooks (1:22.58) finished second and third in the women and men's races,
respectively.
In relay action, UNCW's 4x200 women's relay of Maya Baxter,
Krista Mangum, Hailey Blackburn and Maleena Reid finished fourth (1:46.50).
The Seahawks continue their indoor season next weekend at the
Liberty Invitational in Lynchburg,
Va.
