Pride Takes Match From UNCW, 3-1

WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Erika Charry's 15 kills led three in double figures as Hofstra rallied from an early deficit to edge host UNCW, 3-1 (23-25, 25-11, 25-8, 25-20) in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action on Friday at Hanover Hall.
The Pride improved to 14-16 on the season and 5-8 in the league. The Seahawks, meanwhile, dipped to 12-18 and 5-8. The Seahawks wrap up the season against Northeastern on Sunday with a 1 p.m. start.
Charry was joined in double-digit kills by teammates Kelsie Wills and Nikki Kinnier with 14 apiece. Fueling those combined 44 kills was setter Cataline Charry with 46 assists. HU hit .328 on the evening in the four-set win.
Hofstra outblocked UNCW, 12-5, and compiled a 63-37 advantage in digs, led by Kylee Maneja's match-high 18.
The Seahawks took the opening set after the teams exchanged leads 15 times and saw six ties. With the set tied at 19-all, Laite recorded a kill off setter Natalie LaHaie to give UNCW a lead it would not surrender.
In the second set, HU hit a match-high .357 behind the efforts of Erika Charry and Kinnier, with four kills apiece. The Pride held a 5-4 lead before scoring 15 of the next 20 points to take a 20-9 lead after a kill by Kinnier.
The Pride used another big run in the third set as it broke open a 4-3 match with a 13-2 run highlighted by seven UNCW hitting errors.
In the finale, the teams traded leads eight times and UNCW drew even at 20-all on a kill from Leah Gagliardi. But HU was able to rattle off the final five points for the win.
