Pride Blank Seahawks In Matinee

WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Twin sisters Courtney and Erin Breen combined to score both goals and sophomore Emily Morphitis made three saves for her second consecutive shutout as Hofstra posted a 2-0 victory over host UNCW Sunday in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer action at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
The Pride improved to 9-7 overall and evened their league mark at 5-5 as they remained in the hunt for one of the league's six postseason berths. The Seahawks, meanwhile, slipped to 3-14 and 1-8 with the shutout setback.
Junior Erin Breen opened the scoring at the 13:14 mark when she knocked home a rebound opportunity for her first goal of the season. Senior Laura Greene and freshman Sam Scolarici were credited with assists on the play.
Senior Courtney Breen doubled the Pride advantage to 2-0 in the 71st minute when she headed home a corner kick from freshman Erin Harvard for her fifth goal of the season.
The Pride enjoyed a 21-9 shot advantage in the contest, highlighted by a 12-5 edge in the second half. Both sides were credited with two corner kicks in the match.
Morphitis' three saves gave the London, England native her third shutout of the season. Junior keeper Caitlin Hunter recorded 10 saves between the pipes for the Seahawks.
UNCW returns to action Oct. 28 with a 2 p.m. neutral-site contest against Delaware in Richmond, Va. Hofstra wraps up the regular season Oct. 29 with a 3 p.m. matinee at Northeastern.
