WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Bolstered by strong junior seasons in 2011, UNCW Track & Field athletes Bob Vanderham and Wil Zahorodny have been named to 2011 NCAA Division I All-Academic team by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCAA).
Vanderham, the reigning Colonial Athletic Association champion in the 800 meters, achieved All-CAA honors in both the 800 meters and as a member of the second-place 4x400 Relay. He also represented the Seahawks at the NCAA East Regionals, competing in the 800 Meters with Zahorodny. Vanderham 's time of 1:48.67 at the CAA Championships in the 800 Meters was a school record.
Zahorodny also earned All-CAA honors in the 800 Meters and 4x400 Relay. During the season, he set program indoor records in the 600, 800 and 1,000 Meters and added records in the Outdoor 1,500 Meters and 4x800 Relay.
"We're very excited that Bob and Wil have been recognized by the USTFCCAA," said Jim Sprecher, UNCW's cross country/track and field coach. "It's quite an accomplishment for each of them and something they should be proud of. It's an honor that will look very good on their resumes."
