WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Multipurpose performer Chad Tomko, UNCW's third-all-time scorer and second leading assist maker, was recently invited to attend pre-draft workouts conducted by the National Basketball Association's Charlotte Bobcats at Time Warner Cable Arena.
The 5-11, 165-pound resident of the Queen City displayed his skills in front of Bobcats Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael Jordan, General Manager Rod Higgins, the coaching staff and team scouts.
"It's my understanding from the Bobcats that Chad had a very solid workout," said UNCW second-year coach Buzz Peterson. "When he left there, they were impressed with his skills and his effort."
The workout consisted of shooting drills, ball handling drills, one-on-one games and two-on-two games. Tomko was joined in the workouts by Klay Thompson of Washington State, Josh Selby of Kansas, Norris Cole of Cleveland State, E'Twaun Moore of Purdue and Demontez Stitt of Clemson.
"The workouts went great," said Charlotte head coach Paul Silas. "The fast break transition was really terrific, and these guys can shoot the basketball and understand how to play. They're going to do very well."
Tomko played four seasons at UNCW and scored 1,702 points in 125 appearances. He added 481 assists, with six double-doubles in his career. The Independence High School graduate was named Second-Team All-CAA and Second-Team All-NABC District 10 last season following his final year with the Seahawks.
