NORFOLK, Virginia - UNCW's senior tandem of Michael Pereira and Kinshuk Sharma garnered First-Team All-CAA in singles and Sharma and Chris Cooprider collected First-Team All-CAA in doubles at the Colonial Athletic Association's post-season banquet Thursday night.
The Seahawks, 18-4 overall and the No. 3 seed in the CAA Men's Tennis Championships, face No. 6 James Madison on Friday at 4 p.m. at Old Dominion's Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
"We are always pleased to be recognized by the conference and once again having at least five guys make the All-Conference team says a lot about the kind of depth we are fortunate to have," said Mait DuBois, UNCW's fourth-year coach. "I think Michael Pereira being All-Conference for all four of his years is truly an impressive accomplishment, that I don't believe has ever been done before at UNCW. Kinshuk making All-CAA in singles and doubles for three straight years is also a great accomplishment, that has never been done before. I was pleased to see Chris (Cooprider) getting recognized as well for singles and doubles after the break-thru year he has had for us. I always feel that we should have had more players listed, but it is a real honor for our team."
Pereira, from Fayetteville, N.C., earned First-Team honors for the third consecutive season after posting a 14-5 mark in 2010-11. He went a perfect 8-0 at No. 2 singles and owns a 53-25 career record in four seasons.
Sharma climbed up to the top squad after being named second team the last two years. He has compiled a 16-4 record this season and became the school's all-time singles leader in UNCW's win at East Carolina last week. He stands 63-22 in singles and 54-28 in doubles play since arriving four years ago.
Sophomore Chris Cooprider was voted Second-Team All-CAA in singles to give the Seahawks three players honored. He has gone 15-4 this season, including 11-3 at the No. 3 position.
Two of UNCW's doubles teams were honored, including Sharma and Cooprider, who made the top squad. The pair posted a 13-4 record at No. 1 singles for the Seahawks, who went 44-16 in doubles play this spring.
UNCW's No. 2 doubles team of Kosta Blank and Illia Ziamtsou earned Second-Team laurels. The pair went 14-3 this season, including 13-3 at the No. 2 slot.
