WILMINGTON, North Carolina -UNCW returns to Colonial Athletic Association play this
weekend when it hosts fellow conference leader Delaware for a three-game series
beginning on Friday. The Seahawks and Blue Hens are in a virtual tie with James
Madison for first place with a .667 winning percentage.
The Seahawks (15-12, 6-3 CAA) split a pair of non-conference
games this week with a win at Campbell and a narrow one-run setback to visiting
College of Charleston on Wednesday. In CAA play, UNCW rallied to win the series
at George Mason two weeks ago. UNCW is in a stretch that sees them play 16
games in a 21-day period.
The Blue Hens, meanwhile, have won four of the last five,
including a series win against visiting Georgia State last weekend. UD won the
first two contests before GSU prevented a sweep with a 10-8 win in the finale.
Overall the Blue Hens stand at 16-13 and 8-4 in the league.
Daniel Cropper will carry his 4-0 mark into the series
opener on Friday while the Blue Hens counter with senior righthander Eric Young
(3-2, 4.17 ERA). Game two will see sophomore Blaze Tart make his first career
start for the Seahawks. UD will turn to a pair of freshmen in the final two
games in righthanders Chad Kuhl (1-2, 4.55) and Dan Gatto (1-2, 4.43). UNCW is
in decided in its starter for the third game.
Both teams will be following another big series this weekend
when James Madison hosts Georgia State in Harrisonburg.
