WILMINGTON, North
Carolina - East Carolina recorded season highs in runs and hits as the
Pirates raced past host UNCW, 20-5, in college baseball action on Tuesday at Brooks
Field.
ECU raised its record to 19-5 with the non-conference
victory while the Seahawks dipped to 14-11.
The Pirates broke out to a 4-0 lead in the first as they
roughed up UNCW losing pitcher Ryan Leach (0-2). Trent Whitehead led off the
game with his first homer of the season and Chris Gosik capped the inning's
scoring with a ringing double that scored two.
ECU would put the game out of reach in the second off
reliever Jack Lane with six runs, four earned, to make it 10-0.
Zach Woods (1-2) picked up his first win of the season,
striking out nine over five innings.
Jack Reinheimer had three hits for the Pirates as he pushed
his batting average to .343. He also drove in three runs to lead the lineup.
Leach was tagged for four runs on four hits and a walk. The
Seahawks used 10 pitchers on the evening.
Cameron Cockman and Hunter Ridge each had two hits for UNCW.
The Seahawks host the College of Charleston on Wednesday at
6 p.m.
