WILMINGTON, North
Carolina -The UNC Wilmington women's basketball team moved up four spots to
18th place in the latest Collegeinsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25 Poll,
released Tuesday.
Ranked for the sixth straight week and the seventh time this
season, the Seahawks posted home victories over Georgia State and Northeastern last
week to reach the 20-win plateau for the third time in program history. The two
wins last week also secured Head Coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke's squad a
first-round bye in the upcoming 2011 Virginia 529 College Savings Plan Colonial
Athletic Association Women's Basketball Championship, a first for the program
since the league expanded to 12 teams in 2005-06.
The CAA maintains a strong presence in the Mid-Major Poll
as the Seahawks are one of three CAA teams ranked in the weekly listing that
includes team's from 22 Division I Conferences. League-leading James Madison moved
up one spot to eighth as it extended its winning streak to 12 games while Old
Dominion dropped three spots this week to 14th as it finished the
week with a 1-1 record. Virginia Commonwealth finds itself just outside the
poll as it is fourth among the teams also receiving votes.
UNCW (20-6; 12-3 CAA) is back in action Thursday with a 7
p.m. contest at Towson.
