WILMINGTON, North
Carolina - The UNCW women's basketball team opens the home portion of its
2010-11 schedule Monday as it welcomes in-state foe High Point to Trask
Coliseum for a 7 p.m. contest.

"We are excited to be playing our home opener Monday night,"
said UNCW Head Coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke. "The crowd for our exhibition contest
against UNC Pembroke was tremendous and I know our fans will give us a true
home-court advantage every time we step on the court at Trask Coliseum."
The Seahawks improved to 2-0 on the season Friday with an
84-73 victory at long-time rival East Carolina. Senior Martha White and junior
Kristen Hanzer combined to score 48 points to spark a Seahawks attack that shot
43.8 percent from the floor and 80.0 percent at the free-throw line. Senior
Brittany Blackwell recorded her second straight double-double with 12 points
and a career-high matching 16 rebounds as UNCW enjoyed a 43-31 advantage on the
glass against the Pirates.
"We have had many positives in our first two games," said
Cooper-Dyke. "But in order for us to be successful this season, we must strive
to play a complete 40 minutes. We have had stretches in the second half of our both
games in which we have allowed our opponent back into the contest. We must keep
our focus and play with the same intensity from the opening tip to the final
buzzer."
High Point brings a 3-1 overall record into Monday's contest
as it has won three straight following its season-opening loss to Colonial
Athletic Association member VCU. Junior Shamia Brown paces three Panthers in
double figures with a team-high 12.5 points per game average as she leads the
team with a .563 field goal percentage. Freshman Cheyenne Parker has grabbed a
team-high 10.0 rebounds per game to highlight a High Point lineup that has
averaged 47.0 caroms per outing and has out-rebounded its opponents by an
average of 6.2 caroms per game.
"High Point is off to a solid start to its season and has
proven that it can play with any team it matches up against," said Cooper-Dyke.
"They feature a very balanced attack, so we must be ready to handle their multiple
options on the defensive end. The Panthers also like to crash the boards, so
whoever controls the glass will control the tempo the game."
UNCW leads the all-time series with High Point by a 3-2
margin as the two teams are meeting Monday for the sixth time since the 2000-01
season. The last two matchups have both been one-possession affairs, with the
Seahawks recording a 62-60 victory at home on Nov. 27, 2008 and the Panthers
posting a 67-66 decision at the Millis Athletic and Convocation Center last
December.
UNCW returns to the road Wednesday when it travels to
Wofford for a 1 p.m. matinee with the Terriers.
