WILMINGTON, North
Carolina - UNCW head swimming and diving coach Dave Allen has announced the
addition of former Tennessee All-America Tiffany Clay to his coaching staff for
the 2010-11 season.
Clay comes to the Seahawk program following a two-year stint
with the Connecticut program.
"I am really excited to join the staff here at UNC
Wilmington," said Clay. "I feel very fortunate to join such a successful and
experienced staff. It's such a treat to come to a program that really immerses
themselves in an environment of hard work, love for the sport, and tradition.
Coach Allen's positive attitude is contagious to everyone around him. I'm eager
to coach alongside Coach Allen and Coach Todd DeSorbo, as their passion for
coaching swimming and encouraging excellence is what makes UNCW such a great
program."
Clay was a seven-time All-America honoree during her
collegiate career at Tennessee. She qualified for the NCAA Championships as a
freshman and earned All-America status as a sophomore, swimming on the Lady
Vols 400 Medley Relay. Clay competed on
the 200 and 400 Medley relays at the NCAA championships all four years. In the
200 Breaststroke, she placed 12th at championships as a junior and ninth as a
senior. She concluded her career at Tennessee as the school's record holder in
the 100 and 200 Breaststroke, a member of the 200 Medley and 400 Medley relay
records, as well as the second fastest Lady Vol in the 200 IM.
Clay also qualified for the 2008 United State Olympic trials
in the 100 and 200-yard Breaststroke.
She graduated from UT in 2007 with a degree in psychology
and garnered Academic All-American and All-SEC honors during her four years
there.
