"Sunny" Outlook Ahead For Seahawks

WILMINGTON, North Carolina - UNCW men's basketball has a new home on the radio.

The Seahawks announced today that continuous live coverage of men's basketball games will enter its 29th season in 2010-11. WILT-FM 104.5, one of six stations under the Sunrise Broadcasting umbrella, will be the flagship station for the Seahawk Sports Network's coverage.

UNCW and Sunrise have inked a two-year deal that will keep the Seahawks on "Sunny 104.5" for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons. Sunrise is a division of Capitol Broadcasting, a television and radio company based in Raleigh that operates minor league baseball's Durham Bulls and the North Carolina News Network. Sunrise also operates WMFD-AM (ESPN), WKXB-FM, WAZO-FM, WSFM-FM and WLGD-FM.

"We're thrilled about our new partnership with Sunrise," said UNCW Director of Athletics Kelly Mehrtens. "There are some exciting things happening at Sunrise and we're very pleased to be a part of it. We're looking forward to a great relationship with Sunrise as our program continues to grow and prosper."

Every game during the 2010-11 campaign - home and away - will be carried live, along with any post-season appearances by first-year coach Buzz Peterson's club.

"We're proud to become the radio home of UNCW men's basketball, the biggest game in town," said Brian Schimmel, market manager for Sunrise. "It's clear the program is committed to growth and we are pleased to be part of the future success."

Veteran broadcaster Mike Vaccaro will begin his seventh year as the play-by-play voice of the Seahawks.

In addition to a local radio presence, Seahawk basketball can be heard on the station's website as well as via the internet on UNCWsports.com.
