WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Thirteen home matches, including two regular-season tournaments, highlight the 2010 schedule for the UNCW volleyball program, Head Coach Amy Bambenek announced.
The Seahawks will face a 30-game slate in their second season under Bambenek that features 16 non-conference contests and 14 Colonial Athletic Association matchups.
"I'm excited that we were able to put together two quality home tournaments to showcase our 2010 team to all the Seahawk fans," said Bambenek. "Our non-conference schedule is one of the toughest the program has seen in a while, but we feel it will better prepare us for our CAA matches."
The season begins with an appearance in the High Point University Classic (Aug. 27-28) as UNCW will face off against Appalachian State, North Carolina A&T and the host Panthers.
The Seahawks host the first of their two in-season tournaments with the UNCW Courtyard by Marriott Tournament (Sept. 3-4) as they host Central Florida, UNC Greensboro and South Carolina State.
UNCW makes a trip to Indianapolis for matches against Army, Butler and Xavier in the Butler Invitational (Sept. 10-11) before returning to the Port City to wrap up tournament play with the Hilton Garden Inn Beach Bash (Sept. 17-18) as it entertains fellow Tar Heel State programs Campbell, Elon and NC State.
In addition to its regular-season tournament slate, UNCW will also square off against Charleston Southern (Sept. 7), Coastal Carolina (Sept. 28), North Carolina Central (Oct. 12) and Mercer (Oct. 31) in individual non-conference matches.
Colonial Athletic Association play begins when Georgia State makes a visit to Hanover Hall in late September. The Panthers (Sept. 25; Oct. 30) are one of five league programs that UNCW will face in a home-and-home format during the season as it has home-and-away matchups with Delaware (Oct. 3; Nov. 12), George Mason (Oct. 9; Nov. 5), James Madison (Oct. 8; Nov. 7) and Towson (Oct. 1; Nov. 13). The Seahawks will also face Hofstra (Oct. 17) and Northeastern (Oct. 15) at home and Virginia Commonwealth (Oct. 23) and William & Mary (Oct. 22) on the road.
The 2010 CAA Volleyball Championship is scheduled for Nov. 20-21. The four-team event will be hosted by the league's regular-season champion.
