WILMINGTON, N.C. - A record 25 UNCW student-athletes posted a perfect 4.0 grade point average during the Spring, 2010, semester, capping one of the best academic semesters ever in the classroom for the program's 343 Seahawks.
The spring total of 4.0 averages eclipsed the previous record of 21 just recorded in the fall semester.
Overall, 115 student-athletes achieved a 3.5 GPA or better and 95 more finished between the 3.0 and 3.499 levels. The cumulative GPA for UNCW's student-athletes during the spring semester was 3.04. One team finished the semester with a GPA above 3.5 and 11 teams wound up between 3.0 and 3.499.
"This was a great semester and the student-athletes should be proud of their academic successes," said Sandy Williford, assistant athletic director of academics. "It's our goal every semester for the student-athletes to increase GPA's and academic honors. They stepped up once again and proved that they put academics first."
