WILMINGTON, N.C. - After building a lead on the first day, UNC Wilmington used its depth to win the Seahawk Invitational on Saturday at the Greene Track & Field Complex.
The Seahawks topped second-place Buffalo by 11 1/2 points, 195-183.50, while fellow Colonial Athletic Association foe Northeastern placed third with 145 points. On the men's side, Buffalo topped UNCW by a score of 243-224 to win the meet.
The highlight of the afternoon for UNCW was a sweep of the 4x100 relays, which opened the track portion of Saturday's schedule. The relay of freshman Maya Baxter, junior Shanelle Foster and freshmen Keona Eaton and Jania Bogle, posted a time of 46.34, besting second-place Northeastern (47.43) by more than a second. For the men, freshman Jeremy Johnson, junior Justin Prevette and freshmen Jordan Reed and Kadeem Harmon nosed out Buffalo by .05 seconds, 41.14-41.19, for the win.
In the High Jump, freshman Jessica Van Hulst took top honors with a height of 5-5 3/4.
Senior Aaron Wiggins, meanwhile, gave UNCW a first-place finish in the Pole Vault with a mark of 15-07.
Also giving UNCW a first-place finish on the men's side was sophomore Wil Zahorodny, who captured the 1500 meters in a time of 4:00.52.
UNCW's final individual event winner came in the women's 100 meters when Bogle fashioned a time of 12.18.
The men's 4x400 Relay closed out the meet, taking first with a time of 3:15.61. Sophomore Chris Letson, freshman Connor Brooks, junior Nick Pederzolli and senior Devon Watlington were on that winning relay.
Next up for UNCW is the Shamrock Invitational, Mar. 18-20, in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
