Seahawks Netters Crush A&T, 7-0

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The UNC Wilmington women's tennis team kicked off a stretch of three matches in as many days with a 7-0 pounding of North Carolina A&T on Saturday at the UNCW courts.

The Seahawks, making only their second home appearance of the spring season, won their second consecutive match to improve to 6-3. The Aggies suffered their eighth straight loss without a win this season.

UNCW surrendered just five games in sweeping the doubles point and allowed only 11 games in six singles victories over A&T.

Senior Hartley Collins had a hand in clinching the doubles point and the match. The Charlotte, N.C., product partnered with junior Chelsea Kahle for an 8-3 victory over A&T's Cayla Cross and Azeib Nigatu at No. 3 doubles to nail down the point and later clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1, verdict over Cross at No. 6 singles.

Sophomore Lindsay Leblang and freshman Christina Riley picked up their team-leading eighth wins of the season in singles. Leblang improved to 8-1 by crushing Nina Henry at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Riley cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Jaymee Jones at No. 3 singles for an identical singles record.

The Seahawks continue their homestand on Sunday with a Noon match against Atlantic 10 Conference member George Washington.
