UNC Wilmington enters Wednesday's doubleheader with a 1-14 record as it is in search of its first home victory of the season after suffering a doubleheader setback to in-state foe North Carolina A&T last Wednesday that moved the Seahawks to 0-8 this season at Boseman Field.
Sophomore Laura Sykes looks to continue her solid play at the plate after going 8-for-15 last week to bolster her batting average to a team-leading .409. Senior Morgan Walters is also hoping to build off of a 9-for-21 week from the dish as she is leads the team with 13 hits and is second on the team with a .357 batting average. Junior Samme Lisowsky continued her solid early-season play in the circle last week as she fashioned a 1.40 ERA in two appearances. Lisowsky paces the Seahawks pitching staff in innings pitched with 35.0 as she has fanned 22 and walked just 17.
Coastal Carolina has gotten off to a 7-9 start in its first season under new Head Coach Kelley Green. Jazmin Daigle leads the Chanticleers attack with a .395 batting average, 17 hits and eight RBI while Michelle Evans compliments Green in the lineup with a .341 average and seven RBI. In the circle, Ashley Frederick has compiled a 4-5 record and a 1.84 ERA in 10 appearances. She has struck out 32 and walked just seven in 53.1 innings of work.
Coastal Carolina leads the all-time series with UNCW by a 52-20 margin as the two teams have played each other every season since their first meeting during the 1985 campaign. The Lady Chants have dominated the series in recent years, winning seven of the last eight meetings, dating back to the 2004 season.
The two teams split their season series last season with each team winning on the road. UNCW posted a 7-4 victory at the Coastal Carolina Softball Field on April 8 before the Chanticleers got revenge with a 1-0 extra-innings triumph at Boseman Field on April 21.
Following Wednesday's twinbill with the Chanticleers, the Seahawks head to Rock Hill, S.C., where they will face Delaware State, Gardner-Webb, Longwood, Maryland-Eastern Shore and Providence in the Winthrop Adidas Invitational.
