WILMINGTON, N.C. -
UNCW returns to the field this weekend as it continues its homestand hosting
Akron and Stony Brook in a round-robin weekend schedule beginning on Friday.
The Seahawks (3-3) open the weekend with Akron at 4 p.m., on
Friday, as sophomore Tyler McSwain (1-0) makes his first start of the season.
Rounding out the weekend rotation for UNCW are lefthanders Cameron Roth and Steven Davis on Saturday and sophomore righthander Thomas Jones will get the nod on
Sunday.
Due to the cold weather, Friday's night game between Akron
and Stony Brook has been moved to Saturday at 10 a.m. The schedule has been
adjusted for the rest of Saturday. The Seahawks will take on Stony Brook at
1:30 p.m. and then close out the day's games with a 4:30 p.m. start against
Akron.
Sunday's schedule will remain as is with Akron and Stony
Brook at 10 a.m. followed by the Seahawks and Stony Brook at 1:30 p.m.
UNCW is eager to get back in the win column after being on
the wrong end of a 12-2 loss to Liberty last week in the Hughes Bros. Challenge.
The Seahawks opened the tournament with a 5-4 setback to Lehigh before
rebounding with an impressive 12-2 win over Morehead State.
Akron enters the weekend with a 2-5 mark and is in its fifth
season under the direction of Head Coach Pat Bangtson. The Zips dropped two of
three at New Mexico State last weekend. Akron was picked to finish fifth in the
Eastern Division of the Mid-American Conference.
Stony Brook, meanwhile, will get on the field for the first
time this season. The Seawolves are under the direction of Matt Senk, who
enters his 20th season at the helm. Senk needs one more win to reach the
500-win career mark. SBU was picked to finish second in the America East
Conference.
All four Seahawk games will be audio streamed for free at
UNCWsports.com. Friday's and Sunday's games will be aired locally on ESPN Radio
AM630. All games in the tournament will have live stats, which can also be
found at UNCWsports.com.
