Zahorodny Sets School Mark In 800

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Wil Zahorodny set a school record in the 800 meters to lead UNC Wilmington on Saturday at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup at the Horace Ashenfelter Track.

The men scored 34 points to finish in a tie with Coastal Carolina for eighth place. The women, meanwhile, were 14th.

Zahorodny gave the Seahawks five points with his fourth-place finish in the 800 meters. His time of 1:52.91 beat the previous record time of 1:54.69, set by Paul Chokota in 2002.

Prevette, who won the Long Jump one day earlier, fashioned a third-place time of 21.95 seconds.

In the men's 600 meters, junior Nick Pederzolli and sophomore Chris Letson finished seventh and eighth, respectively with times of 1:22.07 and 1:22.11.

In relay action, the Seahawks 4x400 relay of Letson, senior Devon Watlington, freshman Connor Brooks and Pederzolli took third with a time of 3:17.22.

For the Seahawk women, senior Lauren Donaldson and junior Taylor Holt scored for UNCW in the 600 meters, combining for four points. Donaldson (1:37.61) placed sixth while Holt (1:39.03) was eighth.

The Seahawks will next compete on Feb. 12, when they visit Chapel Hill, N.C., for the UNC Invitational.
