UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Junior
Justin Prevette won the Long Jump at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup to lead UNC
Wilmington on Friday at the Horace Ashenfelter Track.
The
Seahawk men stand in 11th place while the women have yet to score after one day
of action. Princeton leads the men's meet with
29 points while Cornell paces the women's meet with 41 points.
Prevette
nailed down the win on his third attempt of the afternoon, which measured in at
23-8 feet, and narrowly edged East Carolina's
Austin Lewis. It was his third Long Jump event win in as many tries this indoor
season.
Senior
Devon Watlington, meanwhile, qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles
with a fourth-place time of 8.27 seconds in the preliminaries. In the finals,
he went 8.36 to finish in a tie for seventh with Andrew Omoregie of Buffalo.
On the
women's side of the meet, junior Anne Powell and sophomore Jordan Daywalt just
missed on finishing in the top eight and scoring for the Seahawks in the Pole
Vault. Both athletes vaulted 11-3 3/4, but Princeton's
Lydia Arias claimed the final point in the event on a tie-breaker.
The meet
concludes on Saturday, starting with the men's Pole Vault, Shot Put and Triple
Jump at 11 a.m.
