WILMINGTON, N.C. - UNC Wilmington will face defending Big South Conference champion Radford on Saturday, Feb. 20, in Radford, Va., as part of the 2010 BracketBusters series. The tip-off time for the game will be announced at a later date.
The game is one of 12 contests involving Colonial Athletic Association teams. Other non-televised games include Boston at Delaware, Drexel at Bradley, South Carolina State at Georgia State, Rider at Hofstra, James Madison at Canisius and Towson at Manhattan.
The clash with the Highlanders marks the fifth BracketBusters appearance for the Seahawks, who stand 1-3 in the event. In previous years, UNCW has lost to Illinois-Chicago (72-57 on Feb. 21, 2004), UNC Greensboro (73-66 on Feb. 17, 2007) and Vermont (84-73 on Feb. 23, 2008). The Seahawks defeated Elon, 75-72, last season on Feb. 21 for their lone win.
UNCW and Radford are meeting for sixth time, but the first time since 2001-02. The Seahawks lead the series, 3-2, but dropped an 85-72 count on Nov. 26, 2001, at the Dedmon Center.
The Highlanders, coached by Brad Greenberg, are 11-10 overall and 7-4 in the Big South. RU stands 7-2 at home and has fashioned a 1-2 record against CAA teams this season. William & Mary defeated RU, 70-68, on Dec. 22 in Radford before the Highlanders thumped George Mason, 80-53, at home on Dec. 30. James Madison edged RU, 67-63, last Monday in Harrisonburg, Va., in a make-up game.
