NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Led by a
season-best mark in the Long Jump by Shanelle Foster, UNC Wilmington posted six
first-place finishes on Friday at the Captains Invitational at the Freeman
Center Fieldhouse in Newport News, Va.
Foster won the Long Jump with a distance of 17-11, which also was a
career-best, besting her previous best mark of 17-8. Freshman Jania Bogle
finished second to Foster after posting a jump of 16-8 1/2.
Junior Justin Prevette gave UNCW a sweet in the Long Jump, winning the
men's event with a jump of 21-10 1/4.
Senior Aaron Wiggins won his second straight outing in the Pole Vault,
topping the field with a vault of 14-11. Senior teammate Michael Schaefer took
second in the vault with a mark of 14-5 1/4.
Senior Devon Watlington paced the field in the 60-meter hurdles with a
winning time of 8.52 seconds.
Rounding out the day's winners for the Seahawks were the men and women's
4x200 relays. The women ran the second fastest time (1:44.66) in the history of
the program. On that relay were freshmen Maya Baxter and Keonna Eaton, Foster
and Bogle anchored the effort. The men capture their event with a time of
1:34.44.
The meet concludes on Saturday.
