WILMINGTON, N.C. - Junior defender
Indy Smith and freshman midfielder Etienne Boulanger were named to
TopDrawersoccer.com's Teams-of-the-Season on Thursday. Smith earned honorable
mention accolades while Boulanger was named to the All-Rookie team.
Smith, who was named first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association,
anchored the Seahawks defense again as a junior. UNCW has allowed just 12 goals
this season entering their first-ever NCAA tournament game on Thursday at
Charlotte. Defensively, the Seahawks rank seventh nationally with a 0.57 goals
against average. UNCW has not allowed a goal in its last four outings,
including both games of the CAA Championship tournament when it blanked Old
Dominion and Northeastern by identical scores of 1-0.
Boulanger made an immediate impact and was named second-team All-Rookie
by the website. Boulanger is tied for the club lead with five goals and is
second with 11 points. Two of his five goals have provided the winning margin
with game-winners against Alabama A&M and Virginia Commonwealth.
The winner of Thursday's NCAA opening round game will advance to the
second round and a game at third-seeded Wake Forest on Nov. 22. Game time for
that match is 5 p.m.
