HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Senior outside hitter Monica Knight recorded a match-high 17 kills and added a team-best 15 digs to lead Hofstra to a 3-1 (25-20, 25-17, 21-25, 25-23) victory over UNC Wilmington in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action Sunday afternoon at the Physical Fitness Center.
The Pride improved to 12-18 overall and evened its league mark at 6-6 as it avenged a 3-0 loss to the Seahawks in Wilmington on Oct 2. UNCW dropped to 13-16 and 3-9 as it suffered its fourth straight setback.
Knight led three Hofstra players in double-digit kills as junior middle blocker Anissa Whitney pitched in 12 and senior outside hitter Marina Markovic added 11. Knight was one of two Pride players to record a double-double as junior setter Rachel August posted her second straight double-double with a career-high 45 assists and 11 digs.
Whitney highlighted a Pride defense that recorded 11 total blocks as posted six block assists while Markovic and Carolyn Jenkins chipped in five block assists each. Freshman libero Kylee Maneja and sophomore middle blocker Taylor Moore rounded out Hofstra's double-digit dig performers as they posted 14 and 10 digs, respectively.
Junior outside hitter Kelli Clear recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 kills and a career-high 16 digs to lead UNCW. Senior outside hitter Lindsey Strucko finished one dig shy of posting her 13th double-double of the season as she posted a team-high 13 kills and nine digs.
Clear was one of two UNCW players to record double-figure digs as senior libero Ashlyn Morris notched a match-best 18. Sophomore middle hitter Kimberly Friedl highlighted UNCW's blocking efforts she posted a team-best five total blocks.
Sophomore setter Kelsey Bendig dished out a team-best 20 assists while freshman setter Natalie LaHaie added 13. Bendig also pitched in four total blocks, including one solo block.
Both teams return to action next Friday with 7 p.m. CAA matches. UNCW hosts William & Mary at Hanover Hall while Hofstra welcomes Towson.
