WILMINGTON, N.C. - Junior Lindsay Leblang collected a pair of victories on the final day of the rain-plagued UNCW Fall Invitational Women's Tennis Tournament on Sunday at the varsity courts.
The Coral Springs, Fla., product thumped Angie Torres of Charleston Southern, 6-2, 6-1, and then paired with Christina Riley for an 8-0 blanking of N.C. Central's Tatiana Velasquez and Ashley McRae.
UNCW won eight out of nine matches in Sunday's adjusted schedule. Eight singles matches and four doubles matches were played due to inclement weather moving through the region.
In other singles matches involving the Seahawks, Riley romped over Velasquez, 6-0, 6-1, Christina Lee downed Kateryna Chorna of NCCU, 6-0, 6-2, Casey Dashiell trimmed Ashley Rogers of NCCU, 8-4, and Hartley Collins edged Maria Medina of NCCU, 8-1. Andrea Scutte of CSU defeated senior Kayla Schwenk, 6-0, 6-3, for UNCW's lone loss in singles.
In addition to Leblang's result, Dashiell and Collins topped Medina and Rogers, 6-3, 6-0, while Lee and Schwenk knocked off Schutte and Torres, 8-4.
The tournament concludes UNCW's fall schedule. Coach Jenny Garrity's team opens its spring season on Friday, Jan. 22, with a 10 a.m. match against Campbell in Richmond, Va.
