WILMINGTON, N.C. - UNCW Sports Extra, the UNC Wilmington athletic department's fast-paced television show that features a unique behind-the-scenes look at Seahawk athletics, begins its second season with a new home: The Learning Network.

In conjunction with UNCW Media Productions, the 30-minute show will air each Monday, Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. on TLN's Channel 5. The first of 10 shows starts on Monday, Nov. 2, and includes feature stories on women's soccer transfer Ashley Myers, senior volleyball player Anna Price and junior men's soccer star Daniel Roberts, and sisters Lily and Camille Patterson.

The weekly show will include close-up features on student-athletes, sports highlights, in-studio interviews, instructional segments by UNCW coaches, and other special features.

"We're extremely pleased to begin another season of UNCW Sports Extra," said Kelly Mehrtens, UNCW's athletic director. "It gives us an opportunity to provide our fans with some additional insight into our coaches and student-athletes. I think everyone will enjoy it thoroughly."

Samantha Mifsud and Lucas Haskins return as anchors for the program, while Meghan Bryan, Matt Harris, Derrick Lewis and Faiza El-Hibri are scheduled to provide reports from the field.

Mifsud hails from Dearborn, Mich., and is majoring in Elementary Education, with a minor in Theatre. Her first television experience came during elementary school as a reporter at Lindbergh Elementary School in Dearborn, and she also has extensive acting experience.

Haskins, meanwhile, is a resident of Bethesda, Md., and attended Walter Johnson High School. The 22-year-old was an anchor for Walter Johnson's morning announcements and started his own weekly sports show during his senior year. He is majoring in Communication Studies.

The show will also air on UNCW-TV Channel 77 and be featured on UNCWSports.com. In addition, selected segments will be placed on YouTube and Facebook.
