Seahawks Seeded Third For 2009 CAA Women's Soccer Championship

RICHMOND, Va. - UNC Wilmington has earned the third seed and will face second-seeded Hofstra in the semifinals as the field for the 2009 CAA Women's Soccer Championship was announced Saturday evening by league officials.

The championship will be hosted at Parsons Field in Brookline, Mass., Nov. 6 and 8 as Northeastern defeated the Pride, 4-0, Saturday to capture the regular season crown and the top seed.

James Madison will be the fourth seed as the Dukes picked up a 4-0 road victory at VCU on Saturday night to lock up the final spot in the field. George Mason blanked Towson, 4-0, on Saturday to finish in a tie for fourth place with JMU, but lost the tie-breaker to the Dukes after dropping the head-to-head matchup on Sept. 24.

The Seahawks and the Pride will square off in the first semifinal at 3 p.m., followed by the Huskies and the Dukes at 5:30 p.m. The CAA championship is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, with the winner receiving an automatic berth in the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship.

UNCW (11-7-1; 7-3-1 CAA) clinched its fourth straight appearance in the championship with a 2-0 victory over Georgia State Friday night at the UNCW Soccer Stadium. It is also the second straight season that the Seahawks are the third seed for the championship as they lost to eventual tournament champion Northeastern in the first round last year.
