WILMINGTON, N.C. - Sophomore Casey Dashiell and freshman Christina Riley advanced to Sunday's championship in their respective flights on the second day of the UNCW Fall Invitational Women's Tennis Tournament Saturday at the varsity courts.
Dashiell, a second-year player from Norfolk, Va., blasted N.C. Central's Monica Medina, 6-0, 6-1, in the quarterfinals of Flight C1 Singles and outlasted UNC Greensboro's Jessica Eblen, 6-3, 5-7, 10-8, in the semifinals. She will face UNC Charlotte's Iveta Guneva, a 6-3, 6-3 winner over UNCW's Hartley Collins, at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
In Flight B2 Singles, Riley, from Plainfield, Ind., downed Coastal Carolina's Alex Derunges, 6-1, 6-3, in the quarters and cruised past Charleston Southern's Angie Torres, 6-1, 6-1, in the semifinals. She will face the winner of the Mikayla Rogers-Gabi Vergara match, which was halted because of darkness.
Matches begin at 8:30 a.m. Sunday in the finale of the three-day event. Admission is free.
