WILMINGTON, N.C. Sophomore Dallas Poulk and senior Ryan Pond had three hits apiece and combined for four extra base hits as No. 28 North Carolina State topped No. 22 UNC Wilmington, 12-5, in a non-conference college baseball game on Tuesday at Doak Field at Dail Park.

The Wolfpack, winners of their last seven-in-a-row, improved to 21-9 with the win while the Seahawks dropped to 23-6-1.

Poulk went 3-for-5 with two doubles, while Pond also finished 3-for-5 with a double and a home run. The Wolfpack collected 15 hits, including nine for extra bases, on the evening.

UNCW sophomore starter Jesse Haney (1-1) lasted just two innings and allowed four runs on four hits.

The Wolfpack broke through in the first with a pair of 2-out RBI singles by junior Marcus Jones and senior Pat Ferguson for a 2-0 lead as Haney struggled from the onset.

Pond, the reigning NCBWA and ACC Player-of-the-Week, gave NCSU a 4-0 lead with a 2-run homer to left center in the bottom of the second.

UNCW senior Jes Snyder launched his fifth homer of the season to lead off the third and narrow the UNCW deficit to 4-1. A 2-run shot by senior Daniel Hargrave, his ninth, two batter later moved UNCW to within 4-3. Hargrave led the UNCW lineup with two hits.

Ferguson gave the Wolfpack a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the inning when he connected on his third round tripper of the season, this time off sophomore reliever Kyle Lewis, who retired the first two batters before Ferguson.

NCSU roughed up a trio of Seahawk relievers in the fifth, scoring seven runs on seven hits, including five doubles, as 12 batters made their way to the plate. A double to right by senior Tommy Foschi plated two runs and knocked senior Allen Flood out of the game after allowing three runs on three hits in relief of sophomore Bryan Booth.

Freshman catcher Cody Stanley had a 2-run homer to right center in the sixth for the Seahawks to make it 12-5.

UNCW continues its 5-game week Wednesday at 7 p.m. when it hosts Campbell.
