Terry Middleswarth, who touched the lives of many individuals in his 19-year tenure as UNCW’s athletic trainer, was inducted posthumously.
    Middleswarth, who died in 1996, began his career at UNCW in 1977 following stints at UNC Chapel Hill, the University of Oklahoma and East Central State University.
    In addition to his many duties with the program, Middleswarth was heavily involved with the design and construction of the George Diab Sports Medicine Center.
Middleswarth was very active in the scouting community. He served as the Boy Scout Troop leader at Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church for 14 years, developing and providing guidance for 14 Eagle Scouts, including all three of his sons. 
    Middleswarth received a special award, the National Court of Honor’s Medal of Merit, for his role in saving a 14-year-old girl’s life during a summer camp at UNCW in 1987.
    Middleswarth also received the Vigil Honor, scouting’s highest recognition in its Honor Camping Society, the Order of the Arrow. In addition, he received the Cape Fear Award and the District Merit Award.
